Solaris-SVU

First, I wanna say friggin Kudos to everyone who had anything to do with this manga. Plain awsome and heart touching. I wish I could find more like this.

Second, kudos to Kei Kusonoki for writing it.

Third, Im working on a recolor project for coloring the manga's I like but I hit a problem at like.. page 4 (4th page of black and whites) because the image is so small, its hard to get down even to the 1pixel level and make it decent. I have 3 pages that I have completed of Story 1 and I was on the 4th page and it got difficult. It was still possible, but it was beyond tricky and errors were easy to make. when its like the first 3 pages, it takes about 2 hours to color it properly, but page for took me 2 hours just to do the first 2 boxes of the page.

Does Solaris have the HQ's? Even if its still in japanese kanji / kata / hira I can rewrite the subs from the current scanlations.

I loved this manga, and I loved the start, the middle, the ending, everything. Other than one thing....

When it was all over, I wanted to know more. I was sad that it ended. There were more questions and I wonder how's and just so much more there.

Also, Im working on a project right now to color the Manga. I've only been working on it a couple days in my spare time. My current problem, is alot of the very active pages, aren't that high quality. I looked through alot of the manga sites and I couldnt find any HQ's. All regular. The problem is when you start trying to color, its gotta be HQ because its very hard and even working on 1pixel it would take ages.... I'll post 2-3 examples up:


This one was the first one I done. It of course was the worst.

This one I liked but Kazuki's skin-tone is a bit off. There was some shading in the actual page so it added a grey color to it, so I need to clean it then retone it.

Either way, I was wondering if anyone had any HQs of Bitter Virgin. All the ones I find have the same problem.. they get low resolution on several pages. One page being Story 1 page 6, the resolution is too low for me to accurately retone the areas. It takes me normally about 2-3 hours per page. With the resolution making areas so small and require so much attention. Its litterally like an entire days worth.

Which page are you referring to by page 6? The third one you posted up there is page 6.

(depending on the manga, some are read right to left. this manga in particular, is read starting at the right)

That is page 7, you'll notice the 2nd page after that says 9 at the bottom. Anyway, that's not the original image you have, is it? Or was it re-compressed before being uploaded to imageshack. There are some artifacts around the text that indicate the image being highly compressed.

very nice on the coloring tell us when its done this ups the reread value to about 397.582% which is an increase of about 19.607823%

Thanks all for the encouragement. I don't remeber where I got my scans, but it had the Solaris credits on the pages. They may have been batch reduced. If someone could links to the HQ's it would probably make all this easier. Thanks for the link to the one above.

What font do you all use for the translation because i notice the one above is straight scan, no clean or translation. I can do that myself but I figured Solaris would want their tags in there. would you prefer if i used your scanlations? All credits and tags remain in place, I won't change anything like that. On a copy i was goofing off with, i changed one word while playing with fonts but that won't remain in the final cut of this project.

We use wild words. You should be able to get the from the BV page on our site: http://www.mangaworld.org/projects/bitter_virgin.html Though the image size is no different, the quality is clearly different. The thing is, I don't have the entire manga in the size of the above page, so it wouldn't be terribly helpful. The volume 2 & 3 I have are *x1400, and the quality is not especially great.

Actually, was a little worried about having to download "Story" by story. Then I almost slapped myself when I realized that you could download entire Volumes at onces....

So that works out great. I am working on it again this morning while the Misses is at a women only baby shower for her sister.

What I have to ask is a little suggestion on colors in this image:

What would you suggest for the walls, lockers, metal cabinets (could be made wood if colored that way) and other things in the background. I went back to my anime collection and watched a few episodes of Fafner to get some ideas and they had kind of weird colors. The windows were yellow and the school room door was green...

Im going to continue to color the other things either until I come up with an idea or if someone has a good suggestion. Thanks for all the input!

I like a pale green for the door, maybe beige for the walls.
