Kana Motion Graphic - Episode 1

Postby NaweG on Thu Aug 28, 2008 6:02 pm

Checked with Gari, and he said he was ok with mentioning this on here. So for my fellow fans of Kana, I'd like to announce the first episode of my "fanimation" based on [url=http://revver.com/video/1136024/affiliate/219725/my-lovely-ghost-episode-1-beginnings//url]My Lovely Ghost Kana

Well, he who has to rely on a Robot Acting Company for vocals doesn't get many options for who to assign to what :D

I hope that folks enjoy the adaptation. The current plan is to do all 8 chapters from the first volume, and end with the first chapter from the second volume.

And, of course, I have to thank Gari for doing the translation that let me even do this much!

Appreciate your watching it and enjoying it except for the voice. I realize that's the real shortcoming of doing this, but once you start paying for voice actors, then the musicians want to get paid more than just credit, and then you find yourself charging for the video and the publisher wants to get paid for a US distribution license, and...

SO, you make the best compromise you can and hope folks enjoy it anyway. As I understand it, even in the paid world unless your last name is Spielberg or Lucas, you get the same experience just at a higher budget point. :D

Well, I could drop the voices and do subtitles I guess... But that rather takes away from doing a video in the first place :D

For me, the big win in doing this is that I could never get my wife to sit down and read any manga, let alone Kana. But I was able to get her to watch this video and introduce her to a great story. So I figure I've succeeded to some extent just by doing that.

FWIW...

I actually liked the voices somewhat (though it might/probably will mess with the romance and more emotional scenes)

... but if you are going to use subs instead, at least keep the voice that announces the next episode(music was great too) :D

I look forward to your next episodes! :D

I probably won't make any changes until I see if the response improves for the next episode. I was able to find some API "stuff" that allows me to do some tweaking, and while it still doesn't sound quite like a normal voice, it does better. So, we'll see.

Thanks for watching!

I havn't read the manga, but I guess I'll watch this.

Ha, yeah, voice is different. How about getting some of the members here to voice it? Computer voices don't really convey emotions quite right.

I've worked with volunteers on my two previous projects (one VN, and a YKK fanimation). The problem is that your production then becomes tied to when folks have time, and the quality of their recording equipment. On the VN I spend about a week just working with trying to get the different voices at the same level and trying to reduce the noise - and that's still the main complaint about it.

The "real" answer is to find a way to afford to pay for professional voice acting. But then I have to pay the musicians and pay the manga publisher and... So I try to do what i can with what I have :D

Hope you were able to enjoy the story anyway!
