Mess with the bull...

Postby Gari on Thu Jul 03, 2008 8:54 pm

You get the horns. Or is that supposed to be, you get horny? Because I saw this video one time...

Anyway, recently someone showed interest in doing one of our projects. I don't think it was an existing group, but rather a startup. This always baffles me. Why would resources be put to waste to do something that is already being done. There are plenty of other GREAT manga out there that aren't being englisherated. I personally have a folder called 'potential projects' that is filled with all kinds of manga that I would like to do at some point, but can't do them now because I only have so many hours in a day.

The manga in question is one in which, even at my current pace, I will catch up with the publications eventually, so speed is clearly not the issue. I know that because I am spread so thin, people think that I'm going slow. But, in fact, the only series in which the mangaka is releasing at a faster pace than I am, is Kanokon. That one seems to be releasing really fast. Perhaps it's because there are so few chapters per volume.

Anyway, why don't they try to find something else to work on? Personally, I try to find manga that nobody else would ever do otherwise. With a few exceptions, like Umi no Misaki, which was pretty highly anticipated. We're not giving up any of my projects. In fact we are in the process of reclaiming one that has been in neglect. So, I hope they reconsider, because it would be a shame to see good effort gone to waste.

Man...I really do hope they reconsider it too

I don't really think Gari is slow at all,he's actually rather fast, since there are a lot of scanlators who don't release anything for months.

In case I forgot...

Hajimemashite,
Dozo yoroshiku onegai shimasu

p.s.I'll take a shot in the dark and guess that it was either GSDX, My Lovely Ghost Kana or Sister Trap.

...best things in life are worth the wait...

I personally don't care what one it is they are trying to do, or if they do it faster. Gari releases fast, to fast for me in fact. Got to catch up soon. And they always look great. I shall stick with him. While a startup may be faster, depending on how many people are at it, they can't beat the quality of Solaris. There are so many untraslated ones out there that they could do. Personally I would like to see someone pick up vol 2,3 of Vandread. Or Tetsuwan Birdy. Why try and outdo someone who is so good at what they do? Grab one that isn't done already and make a name for yourself. Otherwise you just look mean, and you don't do the community any good.

So they actually got around to releasing Yuria... A few months too late. What a sad state of affairs. Well, we tried to convince them that they were wasting their time.

I see...just checked mangaupdates.com.. interesting, these guys are openly aknowledging that they are doing a project already done by Solaris but fail to give any other reason than "its complicated"...

I think the main reason is that that dude got one of his friends hooked on yuria to convince him to translate it because solaris "was going too slow". Then when Gari pushed out a batch and beat him down, he couldn't convince his friend to do something else... Thus, he's stuck with the current situation... lol

Stuck or unstuck, I don't care. If he wants to keep wasting time on efforts that few (maybe himself and his translator friend) would appreciate, so be it. Although I think his ego is preventing him from dropping it, and secretly hope to build fame for doing something popular (albeit already being done by us... >.>)
