First Ever Solaris-SVU Contest!

Postby BigVinny on Sat Oct 18, 2008 6:42 am

Rules are simple.
1. Suggest three series that are not licensed (in US), and not taken by other groups. Simple synopsis with link would suffice.
2. No Yaoi/Shouta/Loli, etc... Shoujo genre is not excluded, but will bring down the chance to win. Aim for Seinen (not full-H), slice-of-life, shonen and such. To get an idea at what we are looking for, just go through our release.
3. First to suggest wins the tie-breaker. So if someone suggested such and such series, you will have to come up with something else.
4. Make a compelling case as to why this series is must. Just don't go crazy with storyline, history, etc, etc...

Here is what winner will receive.
First place winner gets to choose between Yuria 100-shiki Volume 7, or Bitter Virgin Volume 4. Both are brand new, sealed condition. Second place winner will get the one that is not chosen by the first place winner.

More information.
Shipping will be free for the continent US winner. For those outside, shipping fee will be tacked on and be notified by the private message.
Contest ends in 11/30/2008. Winner must respond the private message with the shipping address and the choice of their prize (if you are the first place winner) no later than seven days after the private message is sent.
I will not ask any other information other than the name, and the shipping address. No other information will be necessary.
I reserve the right to revoke the winner and change to other contestant if deemed necessary. Should it happen, the explanation as to why may or may not be given.

Good luck to all!
All Rules, No Mercy.

1 - Towakan

Towakan is a collection of stories. One of the stories, "Rosehip Diary - Whispers of Roses and Lilles (Yuri)," takes place at a girls' school and is a bit like an adult version of Marimite-- the rhythmic gymnastics club has a system in which second-year students mentor first-year students. The twist in this "sœur system" (though it isn't called that-- the underclassmen are called "partners" or "escorts") is that the mentor also has sex with her mentee.
The main character of "Rosehip Diary," Asou Chitose, has just entered her second year at the academy and is about to take on a mentee. But not only is her new mentee, Kuon Yuki, nothing like she expected, she's a bit of a handful! She's also already started falling for Chitose...
"Rosehip Diary" is three chapters long, plus a sidestory focusing on Kuon and Yukari (a friend of Chitose's).

It's from the some autor as High school girls, dousei recipe, ... so it should be funny.
Important point : it's a Yuri (yuri = win).

http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=32907

2 - Anything from Tanaka Yukata (Kana, Ai-ren, ...)
This GOD has also done a lot of "adult" stories. But it's more ecchi than hentai (and some of the solaris project are far more hentai than that ;)).

http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=447
here yoiu can see everything he has done.

3 - Koharu Biyori

SCX Scan started it but they're not interested anymore.
If you've seen the OVA you already know how funny it is.

Life story of an otaku who buys a brand new robot maid. He’s quite an impressive otaku, with a huge collection of the things you associate otaku with… figures, cosplay costumes, removable skirts, etc. And now with the addition of the robot maid he can play dress-up and various other kinks.

Problem is, she’s one of those "mother-figure" dolls who, through some obvious glitch in the programming, has one of those rare things known as “self-consciousness.” Needless to say, she gets rather distraught by the fact that her master is trying to dress her naked body up in some hentai outfit. And we are not even talking about the glitch in her programming: should she be a "love-doll" or "maid-doll"? Should she sternly lectured her master on the proper role of her as a maid? Or should she be a "real" maid who wait upon his every whims?

Mecha maid -> win

Amaenaideyo!!

http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=8166

The anime surprised me with how much I enjoyed it, and I was shocked to see no one had picked up the manga. Here's the write up from manga updates:

The protagonist of the series is the lecherous Satonaka Ikkou, who transforms into a super-monk (being able to perform mass exorcisms) by his lust for the girls he live with. He lives in the Saien Temple as a Buddhist priest in training with six other nuns: Amanogawa Haruka, Ikuina Sumi, sisters Sugai Sakura & Hinata, Nambu Chitose and Atouda Yuuko, each of whom represents one of the bosatsu of the six lower realms of the traditional Buddhist cosmology. Chitose is the other main character and has a strange relationship with Ikkou; he seems to be in all the wrong places at all the wrong times, but they really care for each other in all actuality. A side effect of Ikkou using his ultimate power is that immediately afterwards he turns into an even bigger pervert that he normally is. The series is about Ikkou's self-destructive power and his attempts to control his own super-sensual sphere/powers.

It's complete at 7 volumes, so you have a known quantity to work with, but if you enjoy it you can than move on to it's sequel Amaenaideyo!! MS, which is still ongoing.

Vampire Master (Os Rabbit Cat)
Comedy Fantasy Romance Shoujo Supernatural

http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=28164

Vampire Master Dark Crimson
Action Adult Fantasy Hentai Mature Seinen Supernatural

http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=6022

From before the dawn of time people ("Crimsons") have been controlled by a deadly foe ("Clients") who think themselves gods. Now, at the turn of the twentieth century, the Crimsons still live in fear of the Clients. Powerful individuals protect themselves by making sacrificial offerings of live human beings.

Dark Hunter, Shion, is half-Crimson, half-Client - in other words a vampire. With his loyal sidekick, Rain, he wages an endless war against the Clients. When Shion meets Helen--a young girl whose family were butchered by the Clients--he makes a blood oath and takes Helen as one of his followers.

Why did Shion become a Dark Hunter? The mystery--hidden under the tattoo on his chest--forces him into a horrendous battle. This is the beginning of a bloody, romantic, dark fantasy.

Alright, I'm new to the forum, but ive been a fan of this group for a couple of years now. So First, Just thank you. And second, I only have one series to suggest (as sad as my life is, I only get exposed to whats already scanned, or printed here in the US).
Anyways my Suggestion is Sunabouzu (AKA Desert Punk)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=5526
If you've already seen the series, you probably loved the humor and fanservice, but if you're like me you found the series to be lacking on so many points that the manga would be sure to fufil. If you want action, adventure, intrigue, plot, and plenty of booby riddled antics, pick my choice of Sunabouzu!
From Anime News Network:
In the future, Japan is a wasteland. In the Great Kanto Desert, scattered humans eke out a living in the hot sand. Among them, a short-statued man they call "Sunabozu" makes a living as a bounty hunter. Like a demon of the sand, he seems unbeatable. Yet, like all men, he has a particular weakness for the opposite sex...
13 volumes. (according to the wiki, Ongoing)

Kenpu Fur has been updated on MU, and from what I could piece together from google translations, it could be a good read but doesn't quite fit the Solaris vibe. So, I'd like to replace it with:

Nidaime wa Cosplayer by Amazume Ryuta
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=10128
The beloved daughter of a respected yakuza has a very strange hobby for her position: she loves to cosplay! Tagged with Comedy and Ecchi on MU, V1 raw also shows some romance and love triangles. Hopefully, a translation will reveal more than just the visuals can convey.

Ru~mu! Room No.1301 by Arai Teru
Edit: Now being done by another group, in its place I'd like to recommend:

Boku no Bandai-san
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=12129
Such delicousness must be considered by the Solaris team. Guy rents a room in a bath house run by a female cutie. Her friends come by a lot and other characters soon enter. Many women, but the girl the protagonist really wants is the most innocent of the lot, the owner of the bath house. Theres a college loli, but she seems to play a minor role. JP raws available, series complete with 4 volumes.
Romance hentai rather than just hentai.

Tanpo by Wakamiya Hiroaki
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=8230
What is Tanpo? Basically it means security collateral. In this story, the Suzumiya family have run deep in dept that they pawn off their three daughters Yukari, Ai, and Midori as guarantees for the money they'll receive... One chapter was translated, but the group's site lists the project as dead. Comedy, ecchi, tsundere, all-girls Catholic school :D

Kitsune no Yomeiri
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=30876

High school student with terrible luck and an extreme pessimistic attitude accidentally ends up married to a fox after praying at a small shrine. The manga is about him trying to cope with a mischievious fox girl while handling his super negative aspect of life. Nice art, funny, and slightly fresh since we deal with a negative protagonist.

Onikirisama no Hakoirimusume
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=17251

Shounen comedy about a half demon girl wanting revenge for her mothers death at the hands of her father who has long since died so she has her sights set on his descendant. Has demon slaying, comedy, and possible romance.

Megalomania
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=15245

Set in a future where humans are not the only beings, there are tensions between two races (humans and demihumans). Humans of an age before created these demihumans as slaves to their society. But then a war broke out and demihumans were freed from their enslavement though still restricted to lead lowly lives. Manga is a bout an officer that protects demihuman rights, a really funny manga with a serious plot.

None of the groups that scanlated only a single chapter of these is continuing them.

Manyuu Hikenchou
A kunoichi defending the bosoms of Japan from the evil abreast, in a series that isn't solely about fetishising boobies.

Cupid no Itazura Nijidama

Imouto Akane
The manga sounds both compelling and comedic at the same time. It is sad slice of life romance that follows the usual comedic twist of YAMAHANA Noriyuki. Being from the same author as Yume de Aetara, you can expect a quality work from this manga. He is one of the rare mangakas who can blend humor and drama in a smooth way. The raws are sparse, but I believe this manga will be the most successful scanlation anyone can scan from this genre. Also, it is on more than 100 wish lists in manga updates and has a rating of 9.9 after 10 ratings. Quite impressive for an unscanned manga in my opinion. Scanning this manga will increase the popularity of Solaris SVU, I guarentee it.

It is about a brother who saved up all of his money to be able to support his step sister. The siblings find trouble in their new lifestyle as they get accustomed to confronting the world together.
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=13715

{Overall, I don't really care about the prize, I just really want to see this manga scanned, because it has so much potential in my opinion: that would be the best prize for me}

Chitose Get You!!

This manga is a comedy following the slice of life story of Chitose, a 11 year old girl in love with her teacher. Even though this could be construed as lolicon, this manga exists mostly humor based, and pokes fun at the innocence and hilarity of children experiencing pseudoromance for their older role models. This manga has potential, because it speaks to a lighter audience.

http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=2013

Boys on the Run

This manga is a bit of a more doubtful suggestion on my part, but I believe in its validity on the basis that it shows a distorted modernist perception of love. Even though this manga does not fit the flavor or context of other Solaris scanlations, being of the seinen genre, I believe its disillusioned view of the world substantiates its value.

It is by HANAZAWA Kengo, the author of Ressentiment, a manga about a man disillusioned with the real world to pursue heidonism from the virtual world. This manga will likewise exhibit the similar qualities of "giving up on real women," and explore the discrepancies between the pseudo utopia of popular culture and the actual dystopia we live in.

http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=7054

As I said before, I really don't care about the prize. This scanlation team is by far the best I have known, and I just wish to contribute in any ways possible. The manga I have suggested are just what I believe will be what you guys are interested in scanning. Lastly, I just want to say thanks for all the great works you guys have put out over the years.

I am new and all, and I really don't want to win (the shipping would cost a lot and I am thankful enough that you guys scanlated Bittervirgin till the end and continue to scanlate Yuria 100-shiki :)

you can say I am happy with just downloading the scans

I am more into Manhwa lately, don't know if that is a problem for the contest... but I think many overlook them just because Manga are more standard for many readers.

Anyway
The Writer is Ra In-Soo known for the "Demon King" manhwa (also known as King of Hell)
The Artist is Son Chang-ho and he also drew "G-School" (with is not being scanlated, so you may want to consider that one too)

Tireujeongi

Also known as
티르전기
Tireujeongi
Try Ujeongi
Try Electricity

a Korean friend told me the real name is not Try Elecctricity and whoever translated that was just playing with the phonetics (sp), he said the real name was Chronicles of Tirr or something very similar to that...
Link http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=36832

I hope you don't have something against manhwa...
But here it is:

Image

A friend of mine translated this of the official page >_>

Comic Champ Blog::

Long ago, there was a story that is so old, it was almost forgotten.
Humans... Elf... Dwarves... Dragons.. before all those
There was a period before
formation of races, blessing of God, Great lands of mana where all was plenty.
The period of time referred to as the forgotten time... and when God's tears wet the earth...
God abandoned the humans...

When is not an exact reference of the future.
Main Character Tirr and his brother Loki assists his father at smithing.
The brother always dreamed of becoming a hero and hopes of joining the army.
Coincidently Loki purchases the diary of the Legendary hero, Ashron.
After that day, he falls deeper into the fumes of hero-dom
Using that, one day he helped the local soldiers in a bar as an excuse and
He runs off to join them without telling his father.

A year later, A squad captain finds Tirr's house to alert them of Loki's death.
Losing his brother he loved so much, causes Tirr to fall into great despair and time pass
until he's 17 years old.
The Diary of Loki was delivered to Tirr
He figures that his brother was trying to send him a message and goes off to retrace his brother's journey.
He stumbles upon random mishaps as he follows his brother's path, and Tirr works to resolve them all.
As he continues he starts to feel nervous at the growing darkness that corrupts his once pure self.

(The Darkness has something to do with the Diary, or so I believe)

Yeah that is not much info... I know... oh wait!!! maybe is too much?

I'm not against it, and can readily translate... only problem (and it's a big one) is finding a reliable way to secure quality scan. Most manhwa scan tends to be quick/crap pressed down scan that really hurts more than help the series to the readers. And please, don't suggest me to head to manhwabang... I hate those places.
