was introduced to manga a few years ago by a friend, was given Chobits to read then love hina, needless to say the first anime i watched influenced my current interests... Love hina and evangelion, now i like mecha, and harem >.<

hmm i was in grade school back then and a classmate of mine brought his newly bought copy of dragonball volume1 issue6.. a year or so i was introduced to the anime too.. and years later, even after college, im still hooked on both..

Galaxy Express 999, Astro Boy, and Glass Mask (yes, I've been reading manga for a long time... about 22 years or so).

I think the first manga that I read was Fruits Basket after I watched the anime

I want to say Love Hina, bit I think there was one before that...

First manga I've read was Akane-chan overdrive which was from here. Then I got stuck on manga ever since.

does anyone think that the first manga they read has influenced why types of manga they read now?
it seems to be the same for anime styles?

or is it just me?

my first manga was eiter bleach or naruto

kamen rider, doraemon, ultraman and saint seiya. And before any of you say anything, yes there is a manga of Ultraman.

After getting Naruto in my eyes, the first thing i did was wash them out with bleach.

That's a rather broad generalization. You say "influence", but you don't specify how it influences them. I'd say it's quite impossible for something you've seen or read in the past to influence what you see or read in the future due simply to the fact that you have already seen or read something.

However, if you meant that the things people read or watch in the present are similar to the first thing they saw or read, then I have to disagree... for both cases. My first manga was probably Love Hina (if it wasn't that, then I don't have a clue what it was). My first anime was Dragonball when I was a kid. My first anime after first hearing the word "anime" was Ranma 1/2. Nowadays, I try to stay away from any series that follows the pattern of any of those three too closely (I make exceptions for series that have some other redeeming factor), so yes, it has "influenced" my current choices, but my current choices are not identical to the series I originally watched or read.

Aside from hentai manga (which I cant remember if it came first) I believe it has to be Girls Saurus. Thank you, Solaris-SVU, for that!
