It wasn't my intention to suggest that you should. I was just saying that I was eager to read
Umi no Misaki because I liked the author's work. In fact, I already own all 17 volumes of the US release of
Ai Yori Aoshi from Tokyopop, so I would have no need for scanlations.

Oh, yes, the manga certainly went much further, and reached a definite conclusion to the story. As far as where to start... well ideally I would just start at the beginning. The first season followed the progression of the manga pretty well, but it did skip a few bits. The second season skipped around quite a bit, however, and adds and "anime only" ending.
Season one ended up around the beginning of volume 8, and the second season had bits from volumes 8, 9, 10 and 12, so you could start with volume 13 if you really wanted to, without missing
too much. The whole series is worth reading, though.
