I like all three. I don't care who the author decides for him. What sucks is the other two will be heart broken and will have to settle for a normal guy.

i would say Shizuku, but that's not only because she's the main maiden. but also because she was the first to welcome Nagi to the island, and she even saved his life!! (important!) if Shizuku hadn't dived to save Nagi then, there would be no ecchi to savor for any of us. yep, tragic pre-ecchi ending.
As for the other two girls, i think Karin has a better chance, since she lives so close by and she can jump Nagi whenever she wants. Nagi also shows no particular preference in the story, yet. But i think he wants Shizuku more.

yeah, it's quite imminent that the ending might bring in its load of sad tears for two of them. i don't think the mangaka would end it this way... maybe he has some other idea on how to tackle this... Nagi can't leave the island either, or one of the girls might have escaped with him somehow to Tokyo or wherever. i'm really curious to know how all this will end. this manga won't have too many volumes either, i mean, how many good-enough ecchi stories can you build from dating 3 girls?? it's always the same thing... each of the girls tries their best to get the guy, and ask him out solo each waiting for their turn. In the current arc, we have the girls living in the same house as Nagi, so i think the mangaka stepped up his story, to allow closer interaction between the 4 story protagonists.
I think the ending will probably be with a very tragic one; two of the girls die saving Nagi and Shizuku lives to marry him. Or, two of the girls find out they can't bear children but Shizuku is here to save the day. Or, Nagi gets Shizuku pregnant before any of the other two, so he has to marry Shizuku. I guess that's about it for this manga. Any other suppositions or theories about the possible endings are welcome :) Let's talk ecchi!

Soyogi is out of the picture. She has come to respect Nagi, and she has a deep sense of duty, but I don't see them having the sort of spark that there is with the other two. Next installment should progress things with Soyogi, though, so we'll have to see how that goes.

Karin has gotten the most "screen time" on her own so far. She's the only one for whom we've seen lengthy private moments and thoughts away from Nagi or another maiden. All of those moments have illustrated her strong feelings for Nagi and her nervousness regarding how his relationships with the other two are progressing. Of the three maidens, Karin is the one whose inner thoughts we know the most about. This makes me think that she is being cast as the second main character after Nagi and the one with whom we are supposed to most identify.

On the other hand, it is hard to ignore Shizuku's connection to Nagi from the start. The opening lines of the series seem to be the narrator describing something that "she" -- presumably the winner -- says to him in the future, and it sounds like something Shizuku would say more than the other two. The last line of the same issue says, "That was my first meeting with her,...", which makes it seem like the narrator is referring to the same person as in the first lines. The raw desire that she has in the latest chapter also ups her odds a bit.

I hope it all ends amicably, with two of the maidens realizing that they were mostly attracted to Nagi out of duty and/or him being the first boy they were allowed to date, and one of them declaring her true love. I could see Soyogi hooking up with serious whatshisname from school and Karin leaving the island after that.

Shizuku could be being set up for a tragic end, though, perhaps saving Nagi yet again during a huge storm. Then the lines from the first chapter could be seen as thinking about someone he loved who saved his life twice and died in the process. Karin is the least likely to die tragically, being the most normal of the three and the least duty-bound.

If Shizuku bites it, then Karin's got it totally wrapped up.

There was also a point where Shizuku mentions a childhood friend who moved to the city long ago (v1 c2 p55). With Nagi being born on the island, maybe this could turn out to be him? So they may have that unique bond between them. Though, if that were true, there is nothing to say that he didn't know the other girls back then either.

Hmmm. I hadn't connected that part back to Nagi. It's an interesting possibility. Reading chapter 2 again, I think you are probably right. He and his dad probably left the island after his mom died. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that he and Shizuku played on the cape together when they were little kids.

Edit: Now that I think about it, that couldn't have happened without opening up a big plot hole. If Nagi had been born on the island, they islanders would have known he was the dragon god right away, and they certainly would have kept track of him even if his dad had left the island with him. It wouldn't have been a surprise to Obaa that there was a male child of a maiden around that had been born on the right day.

Thanks, Gari, for the new chapters.

Other possibilities:

The annoying teacher finds out some secret about the Maidens/Dragon God mythology that shakes things up.

It somehow turns out that Nagi is not the dragon god.

Thanks, Gari, for all the work.

Great series. I have a sad feeling that it'll be Shizuku, in the end, but I was thrilled to see the teacher "enter" the competition, so to speak, or at least shake it up. I'll confess to being a closet Karin supporter, though. (and to want to be in his position!)

I am rooting for Shizuku but I have a bad feeling that something tragic will happen to her so that she dies coz te way this manga opens with the words "that's when I first met her" makes me think of a person remeniscing about a lost loved one. So I think it was Nagi thinking about Shizuku's memory after Shizuku died.

I just read that chapter and it merely mentions that a boy from the island moved to the city. I don't remember it mentioning anything about the boy being a childhood friend to Shizuku.

True. It doesn't specifically say that they were "childhood friends", but they would have both been children, and clearly she knew him. The fact that she remembers it means that she may have been fond of him. They may not have played in the sandbox together et cetera, but, she does seem somewhat wistful when she mentions it. Knowing these types of manga, and knowing the author, I'd say there is a lot of potential for Nagi to be that boy, and for them to have had some kind of relationship as children.
