Gari wrote:True. It doesn't specifically say that they were "childhood friends", but they would have both been children, and clearly she knew him. The fact that she remembers it means that she may have been fond of him. They may not have played in the sandbox together et cetera, but, she does seem somewhat wistful when she mentions it. Knowing these types of manga, and knowing the author, I'd say there is a lot of potential for Nagi to be that boy, and for them to have had some kind of relationship as children.

While i really like that idea. To me there is a lot against it. Nagi was raised on stories of the island and his mother which is why he wanted to go there. Didn't seem like he had ever been there before. But who know, maybe amnesia will be pulled out or something. LOL! Plus why would the old lady be surprised that Nagi really was a boy if he had lived there long enough for Shizuku to even remember him?

I like the theory too, but if he goes that direction it really wouldn't fit with Obaa's surprise at him being a boy. Had he been born on the island, they would have known he was the dragon god from the get-go.

Thanks for the new chapter, guys! Didn't move things forward much, unfortunately. I've seen some ch. 36 spoilers that make it look like a really interesting one, though.

She's not surprised that he's a boy, but that he's come (back), which has started her thinking that his arrival may be no coincidence. When she says 'and he really is a boy' she means that, because he's a boy, there may be a deeper meaning to his return. They don't have a lot of comings and goings on this island. The arrival of a boy, especially one with a connection to the place, would be of great interest.

It could totally go that way. I just think they'd have some serious 'splainin' to do to close the plot holes. For me, anyhow.

Does anyone know when the next volume comes out? Not asking when Gari et. al. would put out a scanlation, I know that depends on a lot of factors. Just wondering when the actual hardcopy is available.

But if he is from the island, why nobody else seems to remember him, or about a boy that goes to Tokyo? I agree that what obaa says may have some deeper meaning, let's just see what transpires in the futures

He didn't even know that he was from the island. He had to be told that. If he didn't remember, then it's conceivable that Karin and Soyogi wouldn't remember as well. They could have been very young. How many adults has he met since he moved there? The teacher, and the old lady. The old lady remembered him, and the teacher is not even a local. So it's not worth asking the question 'why didn't anyone else remember'

wonderer wrote:hmm.. i think the poll was put up too early. The mangaka is only starting to develop the Soyogi storyline. In recent chapters, Karin was developed the most by far, but when the poll was placed, Shizuku was the main love interest in the story.

So far it appears to be Shizuku as the "Magical Girl" in terms of personality, aka Bell Dandy. On the surphase Karin seem Tsunderish, but in fact, she is the "Girl Next Door" or "Semi-Childhood Friend" character. I assume Soyogi will develope into the Tsundere character.

What I love about this manga so far... I really am getting tired of "choose your favorite girl" dating-sim game approach of past harem mangas like some like minded people are saying. So far, it doesn't seem it's going that way. That is a big plus. If it's harem manga, they should really keep it to the spirit of harem. This "oh no, polygamy is immoral" stuff is all good in real life, but doesn't belong in fantasy manga, especially one that is targetting young males.

Anyway, I also appreciate the lack of lolicon. I really really REALLY appreciate this and hope the mangaka will keep it this way. A lot of mangas have these gimmiky comic characters which ruin it for me. In Umi No Misaki, the teacher is sorta like that, but she doesn't get a lot of panels, so it's ok.

I also agree with previous posters who predict the coming of a "4th" girl. Typical storyline, but can go somewhere... But Umi No Misaki has a sort of Io feel to it... There is the story about the "mystery of the island and Dragon God" that needs to be developed so it might not go that way...

I dont know if this has already been said but, well the thing about the whole charcters and such is that most of them are based off of the authors last manga series called Ai Yori Aoshi, which (IMO) is one of the best manga series ever in the romance/comedy series, which is why i instantly fell in love with Umi No Misaki, similar faces but with a new wacky story. any way that was my rant, and for choosing a maiden, Karin All the Way!

I would still contend that the key to this is going to be "what happens to those not chosen"? Knowing what the effect of that will be on each of these ladies may very well determine how the decision is made. For example, if they are banished - then a case can be made that it would affect Karin the most of all and that she "has" to be the pick. If they remain maidens who must be chaste and remain in the service of the temple, I suspect that could be harshest on the most outgoing of the group. One just hopes there aren't any volcanoes lurking that require sacrifice...

It actually makes me think, does he really have to pick just one?
He IS the dragon god, right? Can't he make new rules or something regarding this 'favor'? Or all those sacrifice thing?
I like Shizuku, but the story so far seems go in favor for Karin, he even starting to develop feelings for Soyogi. But I still optimist if he really have to choose, he'll choose Shizuku. But somehow I've got a feeling before he have to make the ultimate decision, something big, probably involving a human sacrifice will occur.

Thanks again, Gari, for the new stuff!

Anyone else notice that Soyogi slipped Nagi some tongue at the end of 38?
